With only six years together, Divino Sospiro already went along a road that would have been impossible for an average local band located anywhere in Portugal.
Divino Sospiro is proud of seeing its repertoire and number of shows increase exponenetially during the years in a diversity that go from a city group to an opera orchestra, going on tours not only in Portugal but also around the world.
The first show given by the orchestra was arranged due to an interchange program between Portugal and Italy in 2004 by the Millenium bcp. We could say that it was this very show that lauched Divino Sospiro to the international show bussiness.
Since its foundation this musical group has had diverse public appearances namely in ones called "Festas da Música", that take place at the "São Carlos" theatre, some national and international music festivals like the "Encontro de Música Antiga de Loulé", the "Festival de Música de Leiria", the "Festival d'Ile de France", a concert recorded by Radio France, the "Folle Journee de Nantes", the "Folle Journee au Japon", the "Festival de Varna", the "Fevereiro Lírico em San Lorenzo de L'Escorial" and even the recognized "Festival d' Ambronay" where the group had the honour of performing at the closing concert. Besides, the group also participated in a tour around Italy which received the enthusiastic atention of the public and the press.
The activities of the group also include the live record of the concert dedicated to W. A. Mozart (Simphony K550 and "Serenada Notturna K239"), which received the award for Bestseller in Japan by amount of sales registed in the country.
Recently, Divino Sospiro participated in the "Mozartiana Festival" in the city of Gdansk, in Poland, where, with great success aknowledged by both the public and the press. A Festival where the Messias of G.F. Handel performed in the version of W. A. Mozart.
In January of 2011, Divino Sospiro presented "Antígono" which was a play presented only once in Portugal in 1775 at "Ópera do Tejo" months before it was destroyed by the earthquake.
It is important to keep in mind that Divino Sospiro palys, in the same way, an active role in both its pedagogical and musical improvement. Take as examples, the "Master Classe" of barroque violin oriented by the eminent violinists Chiara Banchini and Enrico Onofri, organized, repectively, in cooperation with "Escola de Música do Conservatório Nacional" and with the "Centro Cultural de Belém" that are still, up to today, in the CCB, with the important presence of Rinaldo Alessandrini, Enrico Onofri, Chiara Banchini, Alfredo Bernardini, Alberto Grazzi and Vittorio Ghielmi, Kenneth Weiss, Dame Emma Kirkby.
In the Summer of 2007, the University of Évora invited the founder of the group to organize a Summer course in the area of ancient music. This festival gathered some of the most notorious musicians of all times: Gustav Leonhardt, Maria Cristina Kiehr, Enrico Onofri and Alfredo Bernardini. Keeping the educational theme in mind this invitation was made to Divino Sospiro by the headmaster of the University of Évora for the opening of the masters degree in interpretation of ancient instruments in cooperation with the deppartment of music of the EU.
The next commitments of the group follow the debut in the Bargemusic festival in New York and in the Mann Centre of Philadelphia, becoming the first portuguese orchestra ever performing in that city.
Divino Sospiro is, nowadays, the orchestra-in-residence of the "Centro Cultural de Belém" in Lisbon, being this fact of fundamental and recíprocal importance for the development of an artistic reality of high quality at an international level in Portugal, counting regularly with the leading role of Enrico Onofri who accepted the invitation to become the official Maestro of the group.
The orchestra has performed with some of the greatest musicians recognized worldwide like Andreas Scholl, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Enrico Onofri, Chiara Banchini, Alfredo Bernardini, Alberto Grazzi and Vittorio Ghielmi. Christophe Coin, Katia and Marielle Labeque, among many others.
